There has been debate on social media and in the pubs and cafes before West Ham matches about the need to represent West Ham’s older supporters.
We recognise that Hammers United represent all West Ham fans but feel that a ‘specialist ‘ group could add weight to opinion and might make a genuine difference .
At the moment there is no such group.
Old School Hammers is being formed as an independent, democratic supporters group which will represent the interests of West Ham fans over the age of 60 and seek to improve the match day experience for this demographic.
We held an informal meeting in December and then followed this up with a meeting on January 5th.
Present were Michael Adie,Paul Colborne,Tim Conlan,John Elliott,Lee Rogers and Phil Stringfellow.
We discussed aims and recognise that these will be determined by our membership.
Nevertheless 3 immediate aims spring to mind.
1.Work with the club to safeguard and improve concessions offered to West Ham’s older supporters.
2.Work with the club to safeguard and advise West Ham’s older supporters re.introduction of new technology ticketing systems .
3.Work both with the club and independently to improve access to the London Stadium.
Those present then formally agreed a constitution which would now be posted on website. This would be sent to the FSA for support.
T C moved Phil Stringfellow be elected as Secretary. This was seconded by J E and carried unanimously.
M A then moved Tim Conlan be elected to committee. This was seconded by Lee Rogers and carried unanimously.
It was agreed to elect Chair and Vice Chair at next month’s meeting. In this way officers and committee members might be elected from the new members that would be joining in the coming month.
All present were excited at the prospect of helping West Ham United fans and hoped Old School Hammers would make a genuine difference.
